Working with spot colors

In printing industry where lots of brochures, post cards, posters, business cards, stationary, flyers, magazines, catalogues are printed on daily basis, need for accuracy in colors is highly required.

To begin with let’s define spot colors. Spot colors are the colors that are generated by colored inks. The CMYK colors that are so commonly used are also known as spot colors. Variations and mixing of these colors results in hundreds and thousands of colors that we see on our printed advertising materials.

Generally colors are picked up from a logo or picture and matched with your required color or can be taken from a pantone book or color swatches. For printing accuracy these are mixed and matched. Comparable results can also be obtained from RGB colors, which are produced for your computer screen’s resolution. But the accuracy is highly debatable due to the lamination of the monitor screen.

People in the printing industry or you can say printing technicians use the term spot colors for the colors that are obtain by non standard offset printing ink.  For printing purpose every spot color requires a separate lithographic film. Each spot color is printed using one seperate screen. Lamination and UV coating can also be considered spot colors as separate films are required to run the coating and lamination process as well.

Offset printing process uses spot colors to print your brochures, flyers, posters, post cards etc. To get your printing jobs done you can search through many online web site that offer low cost, fast printing services. www.printpelican.com and www.theprintguide.com are online printing companies that extend affordable printing services too.
